Over 75 Years of Historic Firsts
At Beech-Nut^®, we’re proud of our rich history and all that we’ve done for parents and babies. In 1931, we were the first company to put baby food in glass jars when everyone else was using lead-soldered metal cans. And we’ve enjoyed many other breakthroughs since then.

We entered the baby food industry in 1931 with 13 varieties of strained baby food. The clear, colorless flint glass jars we use replaced the earlier, unappealing green glass jars and have remained an industry standard since. Because our scientists have always strived to make the best products, they patented the first vacuum jar to keep food fresh for longer periods of time.

In 1977, we had another historic first when we became the first baby food company to remove added salt from our product line. Chemically modified starch was removed in 1985, and by 1997, all of our products were also free of added refined sugar. Today, we remain the only major baby food line free of added sugar.

We were also the first company to offer age-specific varieties and ingredients. In 1984, we launched Beech-Nut Stages® Baby Food, designed to help parents follow the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) feeding guidelines.

In 2002, we launched the first baby food with DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). And in 2007, we reformulated our recipe. We now offer Beech-Nut Stage 2® DHA PLUS™ baby foods, a full line of varieties with DHA to support babies’ brain and eye development, plus the added benefit of a prebiotic to support their digestive health. DHA, found naturally in breast milk, is recognized by pediatric and nutrition experts worldwide as an important building block of the central nervous system. Research has also shown that it supports babies’ mental and visual development. Beech-Nut also introduced Good Morning and Good Evening foods in 2007 to help babies get the perfect start and finish to their days.

Also in 2007, Beech-Nut became the first baby food company and one of a few food companies in North America to achieve ISO certification.  ISO 9001:2000 is a set of widely respected, strict international standards for quality management and quality assurance. This certification further strengthens our commitment to provide innovative products with leading-edge nutrition to infants and toddlers.

In 2008, Beech-Nut was the first to introduce drinks with added functional nutrients such as Good Morning, Good Evening and DHA beverages.

Also in 2008, Beech-Nut was the first to offer Beech-Nut Let’s Grow!™ products designed specifically for toddlers from about 12 months. Beech-Nut Let’s Grow!, a variety of products that feature a No Junk Promise™, a promise to mom where Beech-Nut has taken out what moms don’t’ want in food and has left in the good things they do want.  Beech-Nut arms moms with facts that allow her to easily compare Beech-Nut Let’s Grow! ingredient lists with any other product and choose the best options for her toddler.
